| What operating systems are supported by Edit Buddy? |
|
Microsoft Windows® XP, 2000, Me, NT 4.0,
98, and 95.
|
| Does Edit Buddy have any effect on system
performance? |
|
No. There is no effect on system
performance. On very slow old computers users might notice slight
slow-down when closing dialog box which has Edit Buddy attached to
it. But even on slowest computers this slow down is usually much
less than 1 second. (In our test on Intel 486 30 MHz computer, we
didn't see slowdown more than 100 milliseconds).
|
| How much memory (RAM) does Edit Buddy take
once loaded? |
|
Edit Buddy's active components are two
tiny files that are only 32 and 64 kilobytes in size. When loaded
in memory they can run occupying less than 200 kilobytes, which is less
than tenth of one percent of memory of most modern computers.
These files are written without use of any external libraries (not even
regular C runtime library) to allow very fast and compact operation.
Edit Buddy is smart enough to take more memory if it is available and
contract to 200 kilobytes if memory is needed by other programs.
|
| How do I attach Edit Buddy to an input
field? |
|
When you install Edit Buddy, it is by
default running in the "Search Mode" until you set up all your
input fields. In this mode, when you click on any input field that
can be serviced, Edit Buddy asks you if you want to attach a drop-down
list to that field. After you set up all your fields this way, you
usually would disable the Search Mode. Later if you want to add
Edit Buddy to another field, you can simply click in that field and then
click on Edit Buddy icon in the system tray and select "Add"
from the menu. In addition, Edit Buddy has several other
convenient methods, which assist in attaching it to an input
field. Our help system, installed with the program, explains it
all in detail with clickable illustrations.
|
| Why can't I attach Edit Buddy to some input
fields? |
|
Edit Buddy can only attach
to standard Windows edit fields and combo boxes, which are located on
standard dialog boxes. Some programs sometimes use custom
dialog boxes and/or edit fields. When you download Edit Buddy,
you receive one-month free trial period, during which you should make
sure that Edit Buddy is satisfactory for your needs. The fact
that Edit Buddy doesn't attach correctly to all possible fields is well
known and is expected. Creating add-ons to other people's programs
is very tricky and is done by highly skilled programmers. Decisoft
is constantly working on improving Edit Buddy. Please e-mail us
your concerns and suggestions. In future versions we will expand
capabilities of Edit Buddy to include more types of input fields. Please
register on our Download
page, so we can notify you about new versions.
|
| I need to install Edit Buddy on multiple computers. What do I need to do? |
|
When you purchase Edit Buddy, you can
specify the quantity. If quantity is more than one, you are automatically
licensed to install Edit Buddy at that many computers, using just one
Key Code. If you want, you can purchase just one copy (specifying
quantity = 1) several times and therefore obtain several Key Codes,
where each code gives you the license to install on exactly one computer.
What you are NOT licensed to do is to pay for one copy and install Edit
Buddy on more than one computer (or more generally: install Edit Buddy
on more computers than you paid for).
|
| Why does Edit Buddy work fine on most of my software, but this one program
crashes? |
|
We are trying to predict the ways programmers
write software. If it is done exactly the way that is suggested
by OS manufacturer, Edit Buddy should work just fine. If developers
use some non-standard techniques in their software, Edit Buddy may not
work properly or even in very rare cases cause that entire program to
crash. If that happens, simply stop using Edit Buddy with that
program (via entering the violating program's executable file name into
exclusions list) and report this problem to us at support@decisoft.com.
We might be able to adopt to the "bad" program in the next
release. Another technique to try is to disable the Search Mode.
This mode is way more intrusive than normal operation of Edit Buddy.
The Search Mode is only intended to easily attach Buddies to fields
of interest after Edit Buddy is just installed or after some new software
is set up. Note that if you are using Search Mode or "automatically
attach to all Open/Save dialogs" mode, you have to suspend the
violating buddies, in order to disable them. If you simply delete
these "bad" buddies, they will come back.
|
| Edit Buddy is always asking me
questions. It is very annoying. Can I disable the questions? |
|
After you just install Edit Buddy, it
usually runs in so called "Search Mode". In this mode,
every time that you visit an input field, to which Edit Buddy can
attach, you receive a prompt asking if you want to connect Edit Buddy to
this field. The Search Mode is only intended for initial set
up. It is much more intrusive than normal operating mode of Edit
Buddy. The Search Mode should be disabled after Edit Buddy is
attached to most fields that you wanted to. You can always
re-enable the Search Mode later.
|
| Does Edit Buddy work with the
Microsoft Office? |
|
Starting with version
2.0 Edit Buddy works with many fields in Microsoft Office. Among
them are all Open/Save dialogs in Office 2000 and XP. Office 97
is also partially supported.
|
| Can I still use my old version 1.x? |
|
Yes you still can use
old versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. If you need to generate license
codes for the old versions, you should use old address
http://www.decisoft.com/?show?license.
